Functionally Integrated Training:
WHAT is Functionally Intergrated Training (FIT)? … : A squat
press machine is uni-planar, or one plane/one dimesion. Since sports
are played in all three planes of human motion, this is not a totally
effective way to train lower body strength for sports. On the other
hand, a squat jump is a free-motion movement, or multi-planar/multi-dimensional,
which gives the joints and surrounding muscle/tissue more realistic
training for movements that will be expected on the playing surface.
WHY FIT? Simple. It allows better carryover to sport and everyday
life because it involves multi-dimensional, multi-joint movements
in unstable (unpredictable) environments. At SL, we've created that
unpredictable, yet controlled, environment for our clients to achieve
optimal performance training results.
WHEN to use FIT? Now! It simply IS how successful athletes
train, how they succeed in preventing injury, how post-rehab patients
heal correctly, how weekend warriors continue on, and how we can ALL
